Reflections on a week-long celebration

Last week, August 7-13, 2016 was National Health Center Week, and I had the opportunity to join the celebration! National Health Center Week (NHCW) has been celebrated for more than 30 years to recognize the innovative services and contributions of America’s community health centers.

During the week, nearly 1,600 events took place in all 50 states, health centers were lauded in print and social media, and President Barack Obama issued an official proclamation, declaring August 7-13, 2016 as National Health Center Week across the country.

I visited four community health centers during National Health Center Week:

Each health center I visited was unique; serving distinct patient populations and providing specialized services, but one characteristic holds true for all–the staff members are fiercely dedicated to community service and improving health outcomes. I was truly inspired!

A heartfelt thank you to the following health center employees: Toni Thompson (JTHC), Carmen Caicedo (Miami Beach CHC), Mary Crooks (EXCELth, Inc.), and Shannon Williamson (Capstone Rural Health Center). They invited me to their outstanding events and welcomed me with open arms.
